While I am a still a newbie in navigating the world of substack, this was the first month where I sat down and really tried to understand how it works. In doing so, I came across the notes feature. It is safe to say that being on substack is much less harmful than being on X or Instagram. I felt a lot of compassion in the comments. One thing I learnt, is that substack is brilliant to improve focus, given its long-format. Chats and comments are much more interesting and there aren’t needless clickbaits.
So, what happened during April?
Towards the start of the month, I was well equipped on publishing my very first book. Everything was ready, until I ran into a technical issue towards the final days of launch. There was no other option than to postpone for a month. Its depressing to work so hard and find yourself stuck after all that. I spent two days trying to fight this feeling. Being in a city was already taking its toll on me. Moreover I was travelling from city to city promoting the book and meeting with professors. It was disastrous on my body. And then came a phone call from my village. A local who has since shifted to Mumbai works in a printing press. He was willing to help.
I thought to myself, this is it. You were forcing your will onto things when you had to keep in mind that “thy will be done”. I was forcing things, hence found resistance and the moment I let go, things fell in place. In an instance I rode back to my village and decided to forget all the issues at hand and spend this month writing what I want to and understanding substack while doing what I cannot do in a city- work on the farm. So, that’s about it. I have been more active here and writing all this feels liberating.
Here’s some of the things that I have liked reading this month-
- writes about the gamification of our lives through social media.
- writes about her travels through India.
- writes about the end of extremely online era.
- writes about the need for caste based reservations in India.
- ’s substack doesn’t need an introduction, but if you haven’t read the Abbey of Misrule, I would highly recommend it!
My book is available for pre-order through my website. For the one’s who do not know, it is a memoir about an 1800 km walk across India.
That’s it for now, I think I will keep up with substack as much as I can and try to get involved in the notes section.
I have got a few new subscribers this month, to whom I would say welcome and thankyou for subscribing!
Feel free to use the comment section. You can send in recommendations, new books or just say hi if you would like to connect.
Until next month..
