This month was strange. I got an uptick of followers and subscribers in the matter of days. Overwhelmed, as I was, given all this sudden praise and connections, I knew that it was easy to give into the stats. The right thing to do then, was to disrupt it all and maybe take a short break. That’s what I did. This sudden incoming of people also made me anxious and made me think twice about the things I was putting out. I think it is important to mention this.
I also had a book to focus on. We launched my first book in my village, next to the ones who were with me when I left on the walk. It felt good to finally have gotten something out that was lying in this computer for a long while. The reviews so far are flattering. I have got a couple of events lined up in the coming days and weeks, which will again make it difficult to focus solely on this substack, but I will try. I hope that all of you, who have joined in, will take this ride with me, as I navigate through these book promotion events and find time to write something worthwhile.
Here’s some recommendations:
Just past week I started reading Siddartha by Herman Hesse. My book “Journey to the East” is in a way a tribute to his book named “Journey to the East”. While many things built up to my walk, this book was certainly one on of the reasons. It made me curious about the nature of life. I was a lost soul in the river of uncertainly, flowing like a log which had no direction and one that hit any rock and stayed there until the force did not push it from behind. If you haven’t read either of these books, I recommend reading them.
My friend was in Bir, India, for the screening of a film called Pig at the Crossing by Khyentse Norbu. I have only watched its trailer but its so good that I already recommend watching it.
There’s this Youtube Channel called Slice, which has many documentaries about fading cultures and people who are on spiritual paths. One documentary that stood out to me, was a pilgrimage by a Tibetan woman. She walks though a place which is associated with the founding of Tibet - The legend of the Demon sleeping under the roof of the world.
That’s all for this time.
Thankyou to the ones who have bought my book- in buying this book, you are also supporting me to write more and focus solely on Substack. I will start posting them out soon.
If any of you reading this would like to buy “Journey to the East”- a memoir/travelog about an 1800 km walk across India, in search of myself and my country - then you can buy it through my website www.ashutoshjoshi.in
If you would like to help me out in other ways, you can buy me a coffee via paypal, www.paypal.me/ashutoshjoshistudio. You would think that a couple of dollars/pounds won’t mean much, but it does, especially in India.
I would also like to share an artwork this time. I sell limited-edition photographs and many of my photographs are held in private collections in Scotland, England and Europe. If you would like a limited-edition print for yourself, you can select the photographs through my website and send me an email at: studio@ashutoshjoshi.in
Here’s one of the prints held in England.
Thanks for connecting. See you soon!
