Thank you for this insightful and firsthand experience post!! I’m a psychotherapist and I have seen the devastation you describe. To this truth bomb of yours and your recommendation of “Comprehensive education that teaches young people about healthy relationships, mutual respect, and responsible online behaviour is essential,” I would add that parents and young people alike need to be educated on how easily people fall into addiction (of ALL types, not just pornography) and the lifelong toll this can take. You are so very fortunate to have found your way out of the grip of addiction, many are not as lucky and lose their lives in the cycle. Please keep writing when you are moved to do so Ashutosh, your intelligent and youthful voice is needed in these challenging times. Blessings to you.
Yes, I totally agree that its necessary to educate parents about the ease with which this can happen. Educational institutions, unfortunately, have become the breeding grounds for such addictions. Believe it or not, this is the scary truth of the moment. By the way, I had no idea that you were a psychotherapist. I am a fan of Jung. I'd love to know your experiences in practicing psychotherapy.
I have watched so many marriages fail because of porn. I believe it used to be illegal to sell in the USA, and I wish that it was again.
